Happy Memorial Day

At the end of the American Civil War, individual states set aside a day (Decoration Day, Honoring the Confederated Dead, Honoring the Union Dead)  to remember fallen soldiers.

After World War II, most states celebrated some sort of ‘Memorial Day’, but it still was not coordinated as an official day to be celebrated country-wide.

Finally in 1968, Congress passed a bill making Memorial Day one of the commemorating those in uniformed service holidays (along with Veteran’s Day).

Today’s cupcake goes to all the soldiers we have lost.

You are not forgotten.
