What happens if Mark Twain wrote a story set in your town? Well, you celebrate it every year and hope it catches on. Calavares County, California has accomplished the former if not the latter.
Anyone who snoozed through Twain’s short story “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” probably shouldn’t find a frog and book a flight to the annual event. Anyone who does remember the story (and its suggestion that the American West is a crooked, gambling, gaming place) would probably find more action in Las Vegas.
If you do decide to head to California and jump a frog today, would you please bring back pics and lots of stories about what happened? We’d love to hear about it.
