Today is Earth Hour. Not to be mistaken with Earth Day, Earth Hour is an international campaign against climate change. For one hour this evening (go to www.myearthhour.org for your time zone’s official hour), it is lights out.
Why? According to the official website, the hope is that participating in “Earth Hour sends a clear message that Americans care about this issue and want to turn the lights out on dirty air, dangerous dependency on foreign oil and costly climate change impacts, and make the switch to cleaner air, a strong economic future and a more secure nation.” Who knew flipping a light switch could say so much?
Today also marks the end of World Folk Tales and Fables Week. These stories have shaped our culture and influenced modern-day story telling in magazines, video games, T.V. and movies. (Don’t believe me? Just take Cinderella…er, Devil Wears Prada, I mean Pretty Woman, make that Hoosiers, for example.)
May tonight’s bedtime story be a classic . . . by candlelight.
